Painting, in opaque watercolour on paper, illustration to the Bhagavata Purana, the thousand-armed demon Vanasura takes leave of Shiva and Parcati (left-hand side of top panel), having been granted the boon of subduing the whole world and subjugating the gods. The gods (right side of top panel) do obeisance before him. Below, Vanasura digs a deep ditch and surrounds himself with castles of fire.
