This painting in watercolour on a rectangular sheet of paper depicts an elderly woman shown from the chest up. She faces front and wears traditional Kachin dress. The painting is signed ‘Yatanabon Mg Su’ and bears an inscription in the bottom left corner which may identify the place of production or the woman depicted” ‘Sharaw Kachin Old Woman, Tangyan, N.S.S.’ (i.e. Northern Shan State). It was made by the Burmese painter Yatanabon Maung Su (1903-1965), probably in the 1950s in Yangon.
