Painted illustration created for publication in a newspaper/illustrated magazine. It was published in vol.100 of The Illustrated London News in 1892. It shows the characters Isolde and Brangäne in a performance of Wilhelm Richard Wagner's (1813-1883) opera Tristan and Isolde at Bayreuth. The scene is taking place on a ship, Isolde is shown seated, leaning against the side of the ship, her maid, Brangäne kneels at her side. It was painted by the artist A. Forestier (1854-1930) and is signed with his initials at the centre base of the image.
