Tschumi, Bernard

Swiss architect and professor, born 1944, active in New York

Tschumi was born in Lausanne, Switzerland, from Swiss-French parentage. He studied architecture at the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, Switzerland, earning a diploma in 1969. From 1969 to 1980, Tschumi taught architecture at the Architectural Association in London, England. He moved to the United States in 1975 and became dean of Columbia University School of Architecture in 1988. In 1983, Tschumi won the competition for the redevelopment of the Parc de La Villette in Paris, France.
