Meireles, Cildo

Brazilian mixed-media artist, born 1948

Conceptual artist who became interested in the ideas of the Grupo Neoconcreto. In 1967, he moved to Rio de Janeiro. He was one of the founders of the Unidade Experimental do Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro. In 2008, he was awarded the Prize Velázquez de las Artes Plasticas, granted by the Culture Ministry of Spain, and was given a retrospective exhibition at the Tate Modern, in London.
