Filippo Napoletano
Italian painter, ca. 1587-ca. 1629
Filippo was called "Napoletano" because he had been sent to Naples as a child; he was probably born in Rome. He studied with his father. He was an important artist at the court of Cosimo II in Florence. Filippo had a keen interest in science and depicted naturalist still lifes and Wunderkammer items. He was influential in the development of naturalistic landscape in the early 17th century. Comment on works: Battles; Landscapes
