Béchard, Hippolyte

French photographer, active late 19th century in Egypt

Historically, the signature "H. Béchard" that was found on negatives by Émile Béchard in Cairo, was identified as "Henri Béchard." More recently, a brother named Hippolyte Béchard was discovered to have been active in Cairo at the same time, indicating that Hippolyte Délié, who worked with Émile Béchard, was in fact Béchard's brother, who for some reason changed his name. The history remains cloudy.
