Painting in watercolour and gold; copy of portion of an embroidered red silk vestment (planeta) of the 12th or 13th century, in the Cathedral at Halberstadt, Germany. Embroidered in gold thread with a circular compartment enclosing a conventional lion or leopard; this pattern is repeated on the vestment, the intervening spaces being occupied by scrollwork.
