Halberd, 1600s. Switzerland, 17th century. Steel; new rectangular wood haft with planed corners; overall: 159.7 cm (62 7/8 in.); blade: 18.5 cm (7 5/16 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Gift of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Severance 1916.1562 The earliest known mention of the halberd is believed to be by the Swiss poet Konrad von Würzburg (d. 1287) who wrote about them in his History of the Trojan War.
