Peaked Morion, c. 1580–90. North Italy, Milan?, 16th century. Etched russet steel with traces of gilding; roped brim, brass plume holder; overall: 35.4 x 23.7 x 26.7 cm (13 15/16 x 9 5/16 x 10 1/2 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Gift of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Severance 1916.1085 Originally this helmet was topped with a feathered plume. The Swiss Guard, a regiment of soldiers that has guarded the Vatican since the 16th century, wear similar looking peaked morions today, though theirs are adorned with voluminous ostrich feather plumes.
