Ture was one of the original Freedom Riders, a prominent organizer in the Civil Rights movement, and a key proponent of the Black Power Movement, serving as chairman of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee and later as “Honorary Prime Minister” of the Black Panther Party. The Swedish establishment endorsed the American Civil Rights Movement and invited many of its leaders to lecture in Sweden during the 1960s.
