The Cleveland Museum of Art, Gift of George Stephanopoulos 2018.383 New York City has long been associated with the latest and most modern trends, but past practices lingered there for decades. By 1908 there were more cars than horses in the city, but horse-drawn carts remained a common sight into the 1950s. Todd Webb, who was frequently described as “a historian with a camera,” delighted in capturing America’s past in its present.
