The Cleveland Museum of Art, The Mary Spedding Milliken Memorial Fund 2007.3 A streamlined adaptation of traditional forms distinguishes this otherwise diminutive tea service designed for use by one person. As such, the design typifies the stylized modern look that emerged in the 1920s and remained popular throughout the 1930s. Compartmentalized forms, economy of scale, and new materials (Bakelite) are a feature of its updated design. While this version in solid silver remained the top of the line, it could also be purchased in less expensive silver plate from the several stores that retailed it around Britain. This tea service comes with a fitted tray so that all the components will stay in place while being carried.
