Rocky Landscape with Hunters, c. 1635. Gaspard Dughet (French, 1615–1675). Oil on canvas; framed: 159 x 201 x 12 cm (62 5/8 x 79 1/8 x 4 3/4 in.); unframed: 127 x 175.2 cm (50 x 69 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, John L. Severance Fund 1970.30 Dughet spent his whole career in Rome. At the age of fifteen he entered the studio of Nicolas Poussin (1593/94-1665), who married his sister. Dughet concentrated exclusively on landscapes, preferring a rugged type of scenery, widely imitated well into the 18th century.
