David Victorious over Goliath, 1722. Giovanni Battista Foggini (Italian, 1652–1725). Terracotta; overall: 41.3 x 47.6 x 31.5 cm (16 1/4 x 18 3/4 x 12 3/8 in.). The Cleveland Museum of Art, Gift of Harold T. Clark in memory of Mrs. William B. Sanders 1966.126 This terracotta model was used to cast part of a series of bronzes on religious subjects. Foggini depicted David humbly, a compelling contrast to the more traditional Florentine approach of David as a proud victor.
