The Cleveland Museum of Art, Gift of Grace Rainey Rogers in memory of her father, William J. Rainey 1942.2.13.b Shifts in style and taste often result in changes to original architectural details. Rousseau painted these doors with imitation dark wood grain. Another craftsman later scraped off the dark color surrounding the classical designs.
