The Cleveland Museum of Art, Gift of Mrs. Worcester R. Warner for the Worcester R. Warner Collection 1930.643 This porcelain lion is a pair with 1930.642. This lion holding a ball is considered male, while the nurturing female is depicted with a cub. Guardian lions were traditionally placed in front of buildings to protect from harmful spiritual or human forces.
