Ainu

Asian Art

Ainu men carved decorative patterns into many wood objects made for daily use. Ainu women sewed and embroidered clothing. By the early twentieth century, when most of these objects left Hokkaidō, Ainu craftsmen were making carved implements, especially trays, for sale to tourists.
