Landscape in the Forest at Compiègne
1826-1828
Paul Huet
French, 1803-1869
European Art
In this image of a densely wooded glade, Huet’s quickly rendered brushstrokes and limited palette bear witness to the immediacy of unedited direct observation. Although Huet traveled extensively throughout France during his career, he found this subject in the forest of Compiègne, near the estate of the aristocratic Orléans family, his longstanding patrons.
